Another example of "getting to the river is more hazardous than running it." This is the I-17 bridge over the Agua Fria River north of Phonix after a major flash flood in 1978. Needless to say, if you'd been on the bridge when it washed away, you'd have gone for a death defying swim, and the traffic jam on the old two lane highway increased the driving time from PHX to Flag significantly (the old bridge survived).
