Once I, Chuang Tzu, dreamt that I was a butterfly, a butterfly flying about, feeling that it was enjoying itself. It did not know that it was Chuang. Suddenly I awoke and was myself again, the veritable Chuang. I do not know whether it was Chuang dreaming that he was a butterfly or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming that it is Chuang.

Chaung Tzu, Taoist philosopher (2400 years ago).

The following 67 pictures were taken by Pete Winn during 60 trips through the Canyon as a commercial guide, river ranger, research guide and private boater from 1969 to 2004. Personal use is OK but please give me credit or cite this site (http://www.shangri-la-river-expeditions.com/grandcanyon/ButterflyView.html). Please, no commercial use without prior written permission (petewinn@shangri-la-river-expeditions.com). They illustrate a view of the Grand Canyon that few people who have visited it ever see because they are so overwhelmed by the vistas and rapids. Each is about 50 kb and has minimal text, so they load quickly. Viewing all of them takes 15 to 20 minutes.
