Exploring the Rivers of Tibet and China

Yellow River

Chinese rafters completed a first descent of the Yellow River from source to sea in 1987. Seven of the rafters drowned in the canyons of northeast Qinghai, part of which is now inundated by the Linxia Reservoir. Although some of the team members had been part of the team that completed the Yangtze first descent in 1986 and had gained a lot of experience, they were still using rafts that were too small for the large river.
